What is happening in this off season????

Postby AL Stagner » Sun Dec 13, 2009 1:10 pm

Just wondering how everyone's off season training is going? And what everybody is doing to prepare for next year.. It's been a little to cold of late to grab onto a frozen metal D handle..
I know Hunter is keeping his arm strong from lifting scotch bottles and water pumps... Here is my wish to all the Rock Mountain Scottish Athletes to have a
VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

And a wonderfully successful NEW YEAR!

See you in 2010!!!

Al, you forgot to tell us what you're doing! How about it :?:

For my part, I've been mostly tossing kettlebells around the basement, though I managed some outdoor workouts when I went to Houston for Thanksgiving. I'm focusing on getting stronger while taking care of my joints. Knees are doing well, but I've managed to tweak my left shoulder and elbow a little, so I'm currently doing some rehab. I'm planning to add footwork drills next week.

I'm still considering dropping down to under 200 lbs. for the WMC, but haven't lost any weight yet. If I decide to do that, I'll need to start focusing on weight loss after the holidays.

Busy off season for me. New diet, down 10 lbs already. Got me a squat rack and more plates, over 1000 lbs of plates now. Lifting 5x's a week and cardio 7 days a week. Doing deads, zercher squats, back squats, hang cleans, bent over rows, high pulls, cheater curls and tons of core stuff. Indoor track starts soon so i'm working my shot put spins for that. Been building some new toys for training. Thinking of mixing in some strongman stuff as well. Hope everyone has a good off season and has a great holiday!

Sorry Steve I didn't say what I was doing! I have been busy saving my body not trying to pull or tear and muscles.. And I'm doing a great job of it..
I haven't lost any weight but that is good thing because I'm playing Santa for my grand kids. Planning to start after the 1st of the year.. I believe that 10 months is enough time to get ready for MWC and pain that goes with working out..
Keep up the good work Steve with all the pains you have your an inspiration to me.
WOW Hunter you seem to have it going on... Diet and lifting hard sounds like your serious about being the best you can be.. Good luck I hope you win all competitions that you enter this year!!!

Rest is a good thing Al, but it's sometimes overrated. There'll be plenty of time for resting after we die. After the Santa Claus gig you might want to start easing into some strength and conditioning work. Are you keeping up your dancing?

The kettlebell workouts are pretty easy on the knees. Pain levels are manageable, though the hot buttered rum may have something to do with that.

Take care.

Doing the weightroom training, trying to get more power from my skinny frame. Hunter what are zercher squats?

No worries about losing weight here, part of my backside fell off last week from the cold.

Getting some cabin fever and really want to get outside and throw.

Good to hear from you Steve. Here is a zercher squat http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdylzDG17KA

Just to let you know Sean Betz will be back at the end of March for another clinic.

Thanks hunter, I heard about Sean Betz doing another clinic just yesterday, I would like to do that again, if possible. Mark told me about that when we were at Kirks house building storage shelves for games equipment.

So that's a Zercher squat. I can't believe Craig quit after only one rep with 605 lbs!
Well I don't have a rack, so everything I squat has to be cleaned first. So, for sure I'm not squatting anything I can't even pick up off the floor.
But I've been doing a lot of front squats, some overhead squats, clean&press/push press. I try to get one session of deadlifts in a week.
